It disconnects the power to the lamps. When a customer shuts off the AC power to connect a remote lamp head, the lamps will be "on". All the customer has to do is flip the switch to the "off" position, which turns off the power to the lamps. Then connect the extra lamp and flip the switch back to the "on" position. The customer can immediately see if they have the lamp wired correctly. It is to be noted that if the customer wants to turn off the AC power and does not want to unnecessarily drain the battery they can use the load disconnect switch.
